Brief of Incident

Captain Vikram Batra emerged as one of the most celebrated heroes of the Kargil War in 1999. As a young officer of the 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles, he led his troops in the daring assault to capture Point 5140, a strategically important enemy-held position in the Dras sector. After the successful capture of Point 5140, Captain Batra volunteered for another dangerous mission to recapture Point 4875. During the fierce battle, he displayed extraordinary leadership and repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire while motivating his men. While attempting to rescue an injured officer and continue the assault against entrenched enemy positions, he was fatally wounded. His famous words, 'Yeh Dil Maange More', became a symbol of courage and determination. For his exceptional bravery and leadership, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime gallantry award.
