17 Jat Regiment
Captain Anuj Nayyar distinguished himself during the Kargil War while serving with the 17 Jat Regiment. His unit was tasked with clearing enemy bunkers occupying strategic positions in the Mushkoh Valley. Leading from the front, Captain Nayyar launched repeated attacks against heavily defended enemy positions. During the operation, he personally destroyed multiple bunkers and neutralized several enemy combatants. Despite facing intense enemy fire and difficult terrain, he continued to inspire his troops and push forward. He ultimately made the supreme sacrifice while ensuring the success of the mission. His bravery and leadership were recognized with the Maha Vir Chakra.
