Kalidas Sarma

On 25 May 2019, during Operation Sunrise-II, Rifleman Kalidas Sarma was part of a relief and reinforcement column moving towards Ukha Ridge in a sensitive insurgency-affected region. The operation was aimed at disrupting militant activities and ensuring the safety of local civilians in the area. While advancing through difficult terrain, the convoy encountered a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) blast followed by intense hostile fire from insurgents positioned nearby. Despite the sudden attack and heavy enemy engagement, Rifleman Sarma displayed exceptional courage and determination. He immediately joined the firefight, providing covering fire to protect his fellow soldiers and helping secure the area. During the exchange, he sustained critical gunshot wounds while bravely confronting hostile elements. His selfless actions and unwavering commitment to duty enabled his team to continue the mission and prevent further casualties. Rifleman Kalidas Sarma made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, dedication and patriotism.
